With the burgeoning middle class over 300 million; there will be an explosion of textile material usage in all sorts of applications, providing a huge market for global textile players.
New types of smart textiles are finding increasing applications in medicine, drug delivery, defence and automobile sectors.
New and nano materials are used for creating new types of textiles that can be used as wound dressings, or artificial skins or materials that do targeted drug delivery on the human body.
India is a preferred place for multinationals to venture into a myriad of business opportunities including nonwoven, medical, technical textiles and apparel sectors.
Indian textile industry needs to get more proactive and create new value-added products using nonwovens, nano and new materials, to face up to the growing competition from China.
Today, India is doing well in commercial textiles, but a lot of innovations is taking place in natural and man-made fibre technologies, use of nonwovens and nanotechnology materials that make textiles smarter and more efficient.
Indian industry is not investing in these technologies and not creating the curriculum in textile technology and materials sciences education.
International companies viz., Rohm and Hass, Noveon, Trident, Hills Inc, AccuMed Technologies and Aegis Environments from USA, Coatema, Fleissner and Schoeller from Germany, PCMC Nonwovens from UK, Bluesign Technologies Ag and Rieter from Switzerland and Cupron Inc from Isreal are participating in the conference to promote their products.
