Wool trends for new A/W Collection

Schoeller Textiles AG upgrades the wool trends for Fall/Winter 07/08 season. Temperature-regulating, breathable, elastic, moisture-absorbing, good heat retention, high level of inflammability, resistant to soiling, highly durable, no problem with static, ntibacterial – we are talking about that high-powered fiber, wool.

Its main producer – theS sheep – has equipped it with these outstanding properties. But because of that decades-old, hard-to-shift image in the minds of consumers of “tends to scratch”, “shrinks in the wash” and slow drying, it has – with a few sophisticated exceptions for high-end wear – fallen somewhat into disrepute.

Now it is once more climbing up the popularity scale. Following on “soft wool” or “smart wool”, Schoeller is assisting natural fibers to new glory in the current Fall/Winter 07/08 collection.

In the current collection, Schoeller has functionalized and technologized wool with a vast smorgasbord of choices: with NanoSphere; with c_change; with PCM; or as a soft-shell solution. The natural fiber which clothed our ancestors as far back as 4000 B.C., is now more versatile than ever before. Since the 70s, wool has been under competitive pressure from synthetic fibers.

Recently it has come back into the spotlight of manufacturers. “Some customers in the USA have been demanding fabrics with woolen fibers for a number of seasons now, and a couple of European manufacturers had always remained true to wool.”

But now the versatile natural fiber has become really 'trendy' again. We are offering it in different blends and enhancing it with additional functions“, says Christine Hübner-Dütschler of Schoeller Switzerland.
