The Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC), in its continued commitment to foster young design talent, was pleased to sponsor the Texprint Colour Prize 2006.

A non-profit making organisation with charitable status, Texprint selects, supports and launches the next generation of textile designers by providing an annual showcase of British-trained talent.

From the 24 finalists shortlisted, the industry experts judging Texprint 2006 selected five Texprint prize winners across the textile design categories: breaking new ground, colour, knit, print and weave.

The Society's Colour Prize was judged by Donnatella Ratti, president and CEO of Ratti SpA, and was awarded to Ella Robinson, a recent graduate of Loughborough University School of Art & Design.

Ella's entry featured creative three dimensional structures comprised of individual slivers of a variety of materials including paper, textiles, plastics and cork in bright and vibrant colour combinations.

Donnatella Ratti comments, 'Ella has a beautiful sense of colour and an extraordinary use of different media. Her fashion and interior work are both very strong and the graphical designs can apply to men's and women's fashion.'

Judging took place at Chelsea College of Art and Design at the First View exhibition and the Society was represented by Chris Sargeant, SDC vice-president for fashion & design.

After exhibiting with the full Texprint group of 24 designers at Indigo in Paris in September, each category winner will show at Interstoff Asia in Hong Kong this October as well as receiving a £750 prize.
