Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-Western regions plans to persuade the State Government for tax rebate while its Delhi chapter will do the same with Central Government.

The proposal calls for the review of direct as well as indirect taxes specifically for Surat with the stress led on taxes like Value Added Tax (VAT) and octroi provisions.

Chairman CII Gujarat, Chetan Tamboli informed that the meeting of representatives of various industries feels that there is a need to review the tax levied upon Surat in the wake of recent flood.

The association also plans to make a presentation to Finance Ministry with the help of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to apprise them about the aftermath of flood.

Meanwhile, almost 60 percent of textile mills, 70 percent of diamond industry and 60 to 70 percent of chemical units in Surat have started their operations or are in the process of doing the same, Tamboli informed.
