Referring to wool industry of India, Chaudhuri announces, “The Indian wool industry though small compared to the total textile industry is extremely important both for domestic and export activities. India consumes more than 100 million kg of wool in total per year, out of this nearly 80 million kg is imported wool from various sources.
India is the 3rd largest consumer of Australian Wool in the world. The Australian wool we import is primarily meant for apparel industry and the New Zealand wool goes to the carpet sector along with Indian Wool. The wool industry exports goods worth Rs 12,000 crore which includes both, apparel and carpet sectors as well.
Rounding off he said, “We are expecting nearly 150 people and out of that 50 participants are expected from overseas.”
