The Government is very much concerned over the interests of labourers working in Textile and Clothing sector and amendments in the labour laws are expected by end of this year.

The Minister for Textiles, Shri Shankersinh Vaghela said this while addressing a seminar on Labour Laws for the Textile and Clothing sector. He said that the next meeting of Group of Ministers (GOM) in this regard is expected soon.

Highlighting the huge potential of the Textile Industry for generating employment, Shri Vaghela said that the Government acknowledges the flexibility in the labour laws is vital to further enhance the competitiveness of the industry so that it can fully utilize the capacity and the opportunities that exists.

He said while finalizing the amendments in the labour laws, the Government would take care of the interests of the workers as even in this era of high-tech machines, 'people' still remain the most important asset of any business organization.

The strength of the textile industry lies in a strong base of continuous supply of human resources. This will be possible only when interests of labour and industry are given due care, he added.

The day long seminar was jointly organized by the Confederation of Indian Textile industry and textile Committee. The Representatives of Trade Unions, the Government and the Industry / Employers also took part in the deliberations.

The objective of the seminar was to evolve a consensus among the stakeholders for a liberalized labour law regime in the Textile sector.
