In a three day sale in Newcastle and a two day sale in Melbourne, the AWEX EMI remained the same on Tuesday, decreased by 1¢ on Wednesday and rose by 2¢ on Thursday. The Western Indicator, in a two day sale, increased by 1¢ on Wednesday and by 2¢ on Thursday.

In another week of good clearances. the market finished on a strong note. The first Newcastle sale saw fine fleece wool open on a weaker basis, but finish more strongly yesterday. Stronger wools over 40 N/kt were keenly sought.

18.5 to 19.5 micron wools in the South and the West were in good demand. Skirtings were generally unchanged, or a little stronger, apart from an easing in 19 to 21 micron pieces in the South yesterday.

Crossbreds finished slightly down over the week. Oddments were mixed with little change in most types and some upward or downward movement in others.

Buyers for China, Italy and India and the topmakers were dominant.

Sales will be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle next week, when 57,950 bales are currently rostered for sale.

The current forecasts over the next four weeks are all up on last week's prediction and show likely offerings of between 57,000 and 62,000 bales over the period.
