"We changed our strategic direction in late 2004 to improve the success of off-farm research and development, and placed more emphasis on investments with shorter delivery times and targeted projects.
"It is important to recognise that our strategic focus for off-farm projects was re-directed again in late 2005 and early 2006 to bring our projects closer to the consumer, and I'm pleased to see this approach is working.
"As a result of further refining of our off-farm focus, we have now established over 50 direct business relationships to market our product innovations with global manufacturers, retailers and designers who have the ability to further influence the wider market.
"While these results are pleasing, AWI understands we need to continue improving our way of doing business and the way in which we communicate our achievements with our stakeholders."
