Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) is still pressing ahead with its claim for direct economic loss as a result of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' (PETA) activities.
AWI Deputy CEO, Les Targ said the legal case will continue on behalf of Australia's woolgrowers, to make sure PETA does not illegally destroy their livelihoods.
“As part of the claim in the Federal Court, 103 woolgrower co-applicants are not pressing for direct economic loss; as it is difficult to link loss at the farm gate to activities taken at retail outlets,” said Mr Targ.
“These co-applicants are still pressing their claim for indirect economic losses.
“The release of a letter by PETA's legal representatives Gilbert and Tobin, one of an ongoing normal exchange of letters between legal teams; appears to be nothing more than a continuation of their previous attempts on behalf of their client PETA, to intimidate the 103 co-applicants into withdrawing from the case."
“They have seriously misjudged the resolve of Australia's woolgrowers to defend their livelihoods and that of future generations.”
