'We have been able to remove a number of misunderstandings,' the commerce minister, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, told journalists announcing the outcome of the meeting.
The garment association leaders, too, agreed to withdraw the case if an understanding was reached through talks with the feeder vessel operators.
'We are partners and we want an amicable solution. We had resorted to legal battle without finding any other way and now we can definitely withdraw case if we can reach an understanding,' the garment association president, SM Fazlul Haque, said.
'We are hostage to foreign operators. The government must do something by revitalising the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation so that the private operators cannot blackmail the country's exporters,' a garment exporter said.
