James H Heal & Co. Ltd recently hosted a United Kingdom Textile Laboratory Forum (UKTLF) meeting. HEALS have recently become members of this important organisation.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a variety of subjects including working group reports on Flammability, Fibre Consumption and the Uncertainty of Measurement.

After the meeting, members were treated to a tour of HEAL'S Head Office and extensive production facilities. Amongst the instruments on view were the recently launched Titan2 Universal Strength Tester and FlexiBurn, the first flammability testing instrument with built in radiator to conform to the new standard for curtains and drapes; BS EN 13772.

The UKTLF aims to meet the needs of the textile testing laboratory community in the United Kingdom. It endeavours to do this through providing participative and open discussions on technical issues relating to the testing of textile materials and products containing textiles.

The organisation does this by providing members with the means to participate in inter-laboratory correlation exercises on a range of textile tests so that the criteria in ISO 17025 are met to the satisfaction of the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

UKTLF promotes a professional interface with other appropriate industry wide Associations, including BSI Technical Committees (and their equivalent CEN and ISO Committees) and governmental departments such as the Department of Trade and Industry.
