The Australian Wool Market finished the week 0.3 percent lower, on average, at sales in Newcastle, Melbourne and Fremantle this week.
The AWEX EMI decreased by 1¢ (-0.1 percent) ending the week at 752¢/kg clean. This reflected an increase of 4¢ (+0.5 percent) in the North and a decrease of 6¢ (-0.6 percent) in the South, with their corresponding Regional Indicators finishing the week at 778¢ and 730¢ clean respectively The Western Indicator decreased by 5¢ (-0.7 percent) finishing the week at 721¢/kg clean.
61,870 bales were on offer (compared with 58,015 last week), of which 14.0 percent were passed in, comprised of 7.0 percent in Newcastle, 13.5 percent in Melbourne and 25.2 percent in Fremantle.
Pass-in rates for Merino fleece and skirtings were 15.7 percent and 12.3 percent respectively. 1,581 bales (2.5 percent) were withdrawn prior to sale and re-offered wools made up 7.8 percent of this week's offering.
The US exchange rate was 0.08¢ lower on Monday when compared with Thursday last week. It increased by 0.32¢ on Tuesday, decreased by 0.30¢ on Wednesday and increased by 0.42¢ on Thursday to close at 75.67¢, up 0.52¢ (+0.7 percent) since the last sale.
The exchange rate against the Euro increased by 0.27 Euro cents (+0.5 percent) to close at 59.50 Euro cents on Thursday night. When looked at in other currencies, the AWEX EMI increased by 3¢ in US terms and by 1¢ in Euro terms when compared with the previous sale.
