Cotton Australia played host to British author Fred Pearce while he visited Dalby to learn about the Australian cotton industry over the weekend.

As part of the visit, Mr Pearce visited Cotton Australia Director Geoff Hewitt's farm, which is located west of Dalby.

“Geoff gave him an excellent overview of cotton production, water use efficiency initiatives, nutrition management, GPS technology and other great innovations that Geoff has put into practice on his farm,” Cotton Australia Grower Services Manager Dan Hickey said.

“We also went on a farm tour and showed Mr Pearce the property's irrigation infrastructure and riparian areas. As luck would have it we pulled up right next to a bearded dragon lizard and were able to introduce Mr Pearce to the local wildlife.

“This has been an excellent opportunity for us to showcase Australian cotton and the world's best practices we use here on the Darling Downs,” he said.

The tour formed part of Mr Pearce's research for his upcoming book “Footprints”, which traces the origin of everyday items such as cotton clothing.

Mr Pearce discovered that the clothing he bought at British store, Marks and Spencer, was made from cotton grown in Queensland, prompting his visit.
