MOFCOM reports that Shenzhen is one important processing & manufacturing, wholesales and exhibition center for jewelry in China. It keeps ahead in China in terms of production scale, technology, fund, techniques and product.
According to Statistics of Customs, in Jan through August this year, jewelry export at Shenzhen port amounted to USD390 million, up by 8.2 percent over the same period last year.
In Jan through August, jewelry export at Shenzhen port by processing trade amounted to USD330 million, 85.2 percent of total jewelry export at Shenzhen port; export by general trade was USD50.46 million, up by 170 percent.
Due to the geographical superiority, Shenzhen has a good access to international industrial information, technology and technique etc.
Undertaking the shift of Hong Kong's jewelry industry, in Jan through August, jewelry export at Shenzhen port to Hong Kong amounted to USD310 million, up by 7.7 percent and contributing 74.8 percent to total growth. Export to the US amounted to USD25.27 million, up by 10.8 percent; export to the EU amounted to USD26.54 million, down by 4.9 percent.
In Jan through August, Export of Gold and diamond inlaid jewelry and accessories amounted to USD150 million, up by 3.2 percent; other gold jewelry and accessories export reached USD100 million, down by 15.2 percent. Both accounted for 60.1 percent of total jewelry export at Shenzhen port.
In Jan through August, 2039 enterprises were noted exporting jewelry at Shenzhen port, a net increase of 628. Of which there were 55 enterprises whose export exceeded respectively USD1 million, making up 89.6 percent of total the same period.
