As reported by the Federal Statistical Office, turnover in the hotel and restaurant industry in Germany was nominal up 4 percent altogether in June and July 2006 when the FIFA World Cup took place as compared with the same period of the previous year.

That is an estimated increase in turnover by some EUR 300 million.

In particular the hotel industry profited from the FIFA World Cup. Turnover in that sector rose by a nominal 8.5 percent or approximately EUR 220 million.

During these two months, increases in turnover in nominal terms were recorded also for other fields of the hotel and restaurant industry.
