Hallmarking is the accurate determination and official recording of the proportionate content of precious metal and gold. Hallmarks are official marks used in many countries as a guarantee of purity or fineness of gold jewellery.
The ASSOCHAM findings also reveal that while on the one hand gold hallmarking campaign has made little impact, on the other it has also been found out that gold jewellery buyers simply wish to buy the gold in traditional form without insisting on hallmarking. This encourages jewellers to incorporate adulteration in the precious metal.
