Industry peak body WoolProducers announced today that it has secured a rebate of $110 for all woolgrowers who undertake mulesing training in accordance with the National Mulesing Accreditation Program (NMAP).
The announcement was made by WoolProducers President and Chair of the NMAP Management Committee Robert Pietsch, who highlighted that the rebate is additional to any existing incentives to undertake training.
"This rebate will be available to all wool growers who undertake training," said Mr Pietsch today.
"Mulesing training and accreditation is a key part of the commitment made to international retailers of woollen apparel by the Australian industry and is also required under the national code of practice for mulesing, so this rebate will be very useful when growers plan to undergo accreditation."
"The new rebate adds to a range of incentives that have been made available, including financial subsidies from state governments and private companies, and discounts for membership of a state farming organisation."
"The rebate is being funded through Animal Health Australia, who is to be commended for supporting this initiative, which will contribute to improved animal health and welfare outcomes and also help protect Australian markets for wool."
"Once woolgrowers have completed the course and their details have been entered on the NMAP database, they will be mailed a cheque for $110.00."
All mulesing contractors must be accredited by 31 December 2006 and woolgrowers who mules must be accredited by 31 December 2008.
