Vaghela inaugurates marketing outlet for rural products

The Minister of Textiles, Shri Shankersinh Vaghela inaugurated the Exhibition cum marketing outlet of products developed by the craftsmen of five states under the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojna (SGSY).

Shri Vaghela said that the target of providing employment to 1.20 crore people is expected to be achieved within the five year period under the SGSY, a Scheme of Ministry of Rural Development.

Shri Vaghela said that during the last two years about 50 lakh people were given employment and trends shows that this year another 50 lakh people are getting employment under the Scheme.

He said that India is at number one position in carpet export and it has overtaken the place of China. Shri Vaghela said that National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is imparting training to rural artisans within their villages and hundred per cent placement is assured for them.

The Minister urged the NIFT students to go to the villages and train rural craftsmen by which they can make their products as per today's marketing requirements.

He said that NIFT is presently working in six clusters and more will be added in due course, for training of rural artisans and the Textile Ministry will provide all kinds of assistance in achieving the targets.

The Minister for Rural Development, Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, while presiding over the function said that the people living below poverty line should be given placement in jobs and his Ministry will provide financial help to a possible extent in uplifting the standard of living of the poor artisans.
