Dutch households spent 1.5 percent more in July 2006 than twelve months previously.
This is a smaller increase than in the preceding months, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands.
Smaller increase for durable goods: Households spent 2.0 percent more on goods in July 2006 than in the same month last year. They spent 2.2 percent more on durable goods.
This is a much smaller increase than in previous months. Spending on this economically sensitive consumption category had been increasing since June 2005.
Sturdy growth in first seven months of 2006: Household consumption increased substantially in the first seven months of 2006.
Spending was 2.7 percent higher than in the same period last year, indicating a strong recovery.
In 2004 and 2005 consumption growth was 1.0 and 0.9 percent respectively.
