The changes in the EMI over the last two weeks have been 41¢ (AUD), 42¢ (US) and 30 Euro cents.
In a three day sale in Sydney and two day sale of Australian wool in Melbourne, the AWEX EMI, increased by 4¢ on Tuesday, by 9¢ on Wednesday, and by 14¢ on Thursday. The Western Indicator, increased by 9¢ on Wednesday and by 19¢ on Thursday.
It was a another very strong market, in which the EMI reached its highest point for the season and pass-in rates were at their lowest (except in the West, where last week's was lower).
While gains were seen across all micron ranges and wool types, the greatest gains were again seen in the 19.5 to 24 micron range.
Increases of 60 to 90¢ (10 to 12 percent) have occurred in the 21 to 24 Regional Micron Indicators over the last two weeks. Changes among the fine wool types have been much more modest, varying from small downwards movements to gains of up to 20¢. Similarly, among the crossbred wools, changes have varied between zero and 20¢. Skirtings and oddments were also in strong demand.
The demand was again widespread, with a strong presence from buyers for Europe and Taiwan and the topmakers adding to the Chinese buyers.
Sales will be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle next week when 61,860 bales are currently rostered for sale. The current forecasts over the following three weeks show likely offerings of 55,230 to 60,400 bales, 7.6 percent above the corresponding weeks last year.
In South African sales this week, their market was quoted as up by 4.4 percent against a weaker currency.
