Brussels signals optimism on EU economy

The European Commission has raised its eurozone economic forecasts for this year and the next, suggesting higher growth will help tackle budget deficit problems in several countries.

According to figures published on Monday (6 November), the 12-strong monetary union will see an economic output of 2.6 percent, up from 1.4 percent predicted by the commission in 2005.
