Trade sources report on a positive development relating to inquiries and a good turn-over in the reported week, putting the main focus on deliveries to countries outside of Central Europe.

Yet, some traders still have difficulties meeting the price conceptions of the spinning mills, despite the decline in prices in New York.

Contracts were closed in the reported week mainly for near dates, provided that raw material was available at the origin.

For the 4th quarter 2006 contracts for cotton from the following countries were announced: Greece, Central Asia, West Africa, Israel Acala and above all India, where the price conceptions were particularly favourable.

The demand for the 1st quarter 2007 was satisfied by Greek, Central Asian, Nigerian, Indian and some West African descriptions.

Moreover, inquiries for the 2nd quarter 2007 were satisfied by raw material from Central Asia, West Africa and Spain.

Long staple need was met with cotton from Egypt (Giza 86 + 88) in the 4th quarter 2006 as well as Israel Pima and Sudan Barakat in the 4th quarter 2006 and the 1st quarter 2007.
