The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) asked for clarification from Andhra Pradesh Government in case of Mahyco-Monsanto Biotech Ltd (MMBL) selling Bt cotton seeds to farmers at unreasonable rates.
Clarification was asked by MRTPC to Andhra Pradesh Government when Monsanto, holding company of MMBL, filed petition that it should not to be held liable for the activities of MMBL.
According to Monsanto's counsel, state government has not taken any steps regarding the petition filed by MMBL's parent firm for deletion of its name from the case.
Monsanto stated that it is not liable for any action by its subsidiary company as MMBL was an independent entity.
