"The fast expanding technology spectrum has enabled the armies world over to modernise their forces to increase their combat potential while minimizing casualty to own troops," he added. "It is technology that plays a crucial role in winning battles and wars today."

Director General Infantry, Army Headquarters, Lt Gen Devraj Singh PVSM, AVSM said that the objective of the Army by 2020 is to field in the battle, infantry soldiers who can read the battle environment instantly and respond either individually, or as tactical team with speed, precision, lethality and agility.

"Infantry, the largest combat arm of the army, defines victory." The Industry, he said, can give the soldiers the combat edge.

Chairman, CII Industry Council, Mr. Satish Kaura said that the army and industry need to partner together to work on the projected technology requirements. "The Industry needs to get into defence production seriously."

"The recent policy changes in defence procurement needs to be addressed both by the Industry and the Army," he said.

The CII has been helping the Industry engage with the Army at the conceptual stage of equipment production.
