Rana Arif Tauseef, former Chairman, Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA), said in a press statement that constant downfall in textile exports and low rates of Pakistani products have resulted in most exporters refraining from attending the Heimtextil textile fair to be held at Germany in January 2007. Some exporters will decrease their stall size.
He said stalls evacuated by Pakistani exporters were being occupied by their Indian counterparts. Inexpensive Indian exports will be giving competition to rich local products for the first time in this fair.
This will heavily damage the country's exports and Pakistan's grip on its traditional export market will loosen, he informed uneasily. He added that for the past 15 months, exports have dropped steadily.
Exports between July and October last year were $3.5 billion, which fell by 9.11 percent to $3.2 billion for same period this year.
