The world's biggest retailer Wal-mart and Indian group Bharti Enterprises Ltd. have decided to enter the Indian market as a joint venture partner, targeting the $300 billion retail opportunity.
This contract has provided a stimulus to other retail majors such as French giant Carrefour, Hong Kong based AS Watson and UK based Tesco who have been eyeing the retail prospect in India for sometime now.
Indian giants like Reliance, Tata and Aditya Birla group have either entered the retail segment or have plans penetrate the market.
This trend shows that India is an attractive destination for the global retailers.
