Demand by spinning mills increases slightly

Demand by the spinning mills slightly increased compared with the week before. Smaller quantities for short term supply were ordered, but also lots for delivery until midyear 2007.

Chad cotton, which is currently not offered for near dates, was sold for delivery in the third quarter 2007.

Turnovers were partly supported by more favourable prices on the Euro-/kg basis. West African origins did not benefit from this development and remained on a high level.

The sideways movement of the New York cotton futures showed no clear tendency and the quotations of the Cotlook A Index cif Northern Europe were about 2 cents above the week before.

In the Upland range were traded: Central Asian sorts for prompt and further to in the 2nd quarter 2007; West African types for the same period of time, Chad for the 2nd and 3rd quarter 2007; East African cottons including Sudan Acala for prompt and 1st quarter 2007; Greek descriptions for prompt loading.

In the LS/ELS range, Egyptian varieties, Sudan Barakat, USA and Israel Pima were traded for the 1st and 2nd quarter 2007.
