LCCI seeks technical help from USAID for cotton & tex industry

The ginning industries are 6,778. 70 percent of textile industry is located in Punjab. Punjab's share in national exports amounts to 60 percent.

Lahore and Gujranwala Divisions have the largest concentration of small and light engineering units. Punjab is also a mineral rich province with extensive mineral deposits of coal, rock salt, gypsum, and silica-sand.

There is a need to exploit the agricultural, industrial and mineral strengths minimize post-harvest losses and produce value added products from agricultural production.
Pakistan is the fourth largest producer of cotton in the world but due to poor quality of seed, Pakistani cotton is of short staple and per acre yield is also low as compared to countries like India and china. China has evolved a variety of color cotton, which does not require dyeing.

They said that SMEs in Pakistan also lack technology and innovation. Guidance and training in this area is also required.
