Better economic climate in particular for textile & apparel sector

The number of employees in the German textile industry has dropped again by 6.3 percent to 81,954 in August. As well, the employment figures of the apparel industry decreased by 1.8 percent to 41,246 people compared to August 2005.
Related to the first eight months of the current year, the number of people employed within the textile sector decreased by 6.8 percent and within apparel by 3.5 percent.
The imports declined by 2.3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year leading to an increase of 7.4 percent for the period January to August 2006.
According to the good progress in selling abroad, exports have developed upward by 2.3 percent in August and by a total of 4.7 percent for the described period.
