Industrial production up 3.6% in Oct

Seasonally adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.1 percent in the euro area2 in October 2006 compared to September 2006. Production declined by 1.1 percent in September3 and rose by 1.6 percent in August.

In the EU25 output fell by 0.1 percent in October 2006 after a decrease of 0.6 percent in September and an increase of 1.1 percent in August.

In October 2006 compared to October 2005, industrial production rose by 3.6 percent in the euro area and by 3.4 percent in the EU25.

Monthly comparison
In October 2006 compared to September 2006, production of intermediate goods grew by 0.5 percent in both the euro area and the EU25. Non-durable consumer goods increased by 0.3 percent in both zones.

Durable consumer goods rose by 0.1 percent in the euro area and by 0.3 percent in the EU25.

Capital goods fell by 0.8 percent in both zones. Production of energy decreased by 1.7 percent in the euro area and by 2.0 percent in the EU25.

In October 2006, and among the Member States for which data are available, industrial production rose in twelve Member States and fell in nine.

The highest increases were registered in Denmark (+3.5 percent), Greece (+2.2 percent), Belgium and Estonia (both +1.6 percent), while the largest decreases were recorded in Finland (-2.6 percent), Lithuania (-2.1 percent), the Netherlands (-1.8 percent) and Ireland (-1.4 percent).

Annual comparison
In October 2006 compared to October 2005, production of intermediate goods increased by 5.1 percent in the euro area and by 5.0 percent in the EU25.
