In October 2006, turnover in retail trade was 2.5 percent up on one year previously. Retail prices were 1.1 percent higher, volume increased by 1.4 percent.
The number of shopping days in October had a negative effect on retail turnover.
After a rough correction for shopping days, retail turnover was rated at more than 4 percent, according to figures published by Statistics Netherlands.
Turnover and prices in the food sector were respectively 1.4 and 1.6 percent higher than in October 2005; the volume of turnover hardly changed.
In the non-food sector, turnover and prices went up by 2.5 and 0.8 percent respectively.
Volume increased 1.7 percent, relative to one year ago. Specialist shops in food, drinks and tobacco recorded the lowest turnover growth rate (0.5 percent).
Home furnishing shops and consumer electronics performed best. Their turnover increased by 6.8 and 5.7 percent respectively, compared to twelve months ago.
