Pass in rates for Merino fleece and skirtings were 9.2 percent and 10.9 percent respectively. 2,281 bales (8.8 percent) were withdrawn prior to sale and re-offered wools made up 8.8 percent of this week's offering.
The New Zealand Merino Company offered 2,566 bales for sale on Wednesday, of which 24.3 percent were re-offered wools. 706 bales (27.5 percent) were passed in and 30 bales were withdrawn before the sale.
Progressively, a combination of earlier shearings and better prices has resulted in an additional 69,743 bales being offered for sale in the July to December period when compared with last year.
However, with the latest production estimate of 421 mkg being 8.8 percent less than in 2005/06, offerings over the second half of the season are implied to be down by around 16 percent, apart from any additional wool which came come out of store or off-farm.
The US exchange rate was 0.69¢ lower on Monday when compared with Thursday last week. It increased by 0.31¢ on Tuesday, by 0.26¢ on Wednesday and decreased by 0.16¢ on Thursday to close at 78.63¢, down 0.28¢ (0.4 percent) since the last sale.
