S V Arumugam, Chairman of the Southern India Mills' Association (Sima), with 331 textile mills spread over the States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Pondicherry and Tamilnadu, has requested the Andhra Pradesh Government to spare them from power cuts in the state.

An undeclared power cut for over four hours a day would restrain industrialists to invest in Andhra Pradesh as power cost accounts for more than one third of conversion cost for spinning mills.

According to the AP Textile and Apparel Policy for 2005-2010, textile mills were tempted with big incentives and encouraged to set up units in Andhra Pradesh. With this the association has decided to establish an integrated textile park at Naidupet.
