Mahyco asked to pay damages on Bt cotton crop failure

Tamil Nadu Government has asked Mahyco to pay compensation for the failure of much hyped Bt cotton seeds in Dharampuri in the current season.
The Government issued orders following complaints from local NGO to the District Collector and the Joint Director for Agriculture in charge of Dharampuri.
On December 22, 2006, scientists at Coimbatore Agriculture University were asked by the Director of Agriculture to conduct tests to verify the fact.
The scientists conducted tests on soil and took samples of the seed sown.
