Hohenstein Institutes has announced an updated Oeko-Tex Standard 100 to take account of the latest developments.
Following changes have been made according to an official press release, received yesterday.
* As a basic principle, materials containing polyurethane will be tested for carcinogenic arylamines. The limit value is 20 milligrams per kilo.
* Products with direct skin contact are not allowed to contain more than 0.1 percent of the phthalates DEHP, BBP and DBP that are suspected to cause cancer.
* All materials will be tested now on for the heavy metals mercury and arsenic.
* Disperse Orange 149 was added to the list of forbidden dyes.
To make the production background clearer, all applicants for Oeko-Tex certification are explicitly asked if they manufacture their own materials or if they have them produced on commission basis.
The new limit values will come into force on 1 April 2007.
