Restoring production in the spinning mill of our fibres unit in Bobingen is going full steam ahead following the fire on the 30th December 2006. Eight of the 14 machines have been operating normally since the 2nd January 2007.
Following the release of the sector by the authorities, work started on the 2nd January clearing up and restoring the part of the unit with the six machines most severely damaged by fire and by the water used to extinguish the blaze.
Close inspection of the cause of the blaze has confirmed that it was started by a cable catching fire. The damage will come to several million euros.
"We are confident we can have the final machines up and running in March", says Works Manager Manfred Christian. "That is a very ambitious plan, but if we get all the spare parts we require in the delivery timeframe we're promised, we'll make it".
"The whole Trevira organisation is locked into the reconstruction activities. A particular load is naturally falling on our staff in fibres, with the engineering department working special shifts as well", says CEO Jörg Hellwig.
A temporary agreement with the Works Council has been put in place to deal with arrangements for reduced manning levels. "Today, that is just ten days after the fire, operations are back to over 50 per cent. This has only been possible with the outstanding commitment of all our people. Our customers too have been very cooperative and we are working together toget the difficult situation under control."
