India upped textile exports to US & EU significantly post MFA

Mentioning that there is no correlation between duty free access and exports, he said that in 1990, Mexico exported textiles and clothing worth US$ 678 million to US, whereas India exported US$ 793 million. By the year 2000, Mexico's export to US has leapt to a whopping US$ 9.7 billion, leaving India far behind at US$ 2.7 billion.

The inference was that Mexico's star performance in the US textile market was due to the duty free access on account of NAFTA. However, Mexico's export to US during 2006 has declined by 11.7 per cent despite having the duty free access, whereas India in the same year notched a growth of over 9 per cent.
