Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) has partnered with technology giant INVISTA to create Merino Coolmax, a textile with enhanced performance attributes.

The Merino Coolmax blend creates a textile that can be used in anything from active outdoor apparel, through to intimate lingerie and haute couture designs.

Coolmax has been designed to move moisture away from the body and enhance fabric drying rate, to keep the wearer feeling cool and dry. Free of chemical treatment, the fabric is breathable, soft, machine washable and has excellent drape.

Mrs Charlotte Mills, Product Development at Invista said “the benefits of Australian Merino wool were the ultimate match for the Coolmax fibre. The natural durability, moisture absorbent qualities, and luxurious softness of Merino add a new dimension to Coolmax.”

Australian Merino and Coolmax can be combined prior to spinning, or as an end-on-end yarn in twisting or fabric plaiting during the knitting process. Lightweight and durable, Merino coolmax brings together natures best with the latest man-made technology.

Merino Coolmax will be on display to the fashion and textile industry at the coming trade exhibitions:
• Pitti Filati
Fortezza da Basso
Florence, Italy, January 31st – February 2nd 2007.

• Spin Expo
Shanghai, China
7th – 9th March 2007.

Mr Jimmy Jackson, Global Product Development Manager at AWI said “the innovation has come to fruition through a strategic partnership between AWI and INIVSTA.”
