Anti-dumping duty on polyester fiber concerns APTMA

On implementation of provisional anti-dumping duty on imports of polyester staple fiber from Indonesia, Thailand and Korea, All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has raised concerns over the decision taken in rush.
In a press statement, APTMA criticized lack of coordination between Government and departments within.
This step was taken despite the promise made by Textile and Commerce Ministry that announcements would be made only after consulting stakeholders.
Anti-dumping law failed to address the peculiarities of constitution of Pakistan.
Even foreign enterprises were not bothered to respond, as their exports to country are too small.
Out of 500,000 tons of total consumption per annum, merely five percent of polyester staple fiber is imported from these countries.
Government decision to implement anti-dumping lawsuit would trigger prices of raw material in future.
Already import duty of 6.5 percent is imposed on polyester staple fiber to protect domestic industry.
