"We are planning to carry out these projects in places where the trade and transport is mostly carried, such as the Asian and European sides of Istanbul and the cities of Mersin, Gaziantep, Izmir, Samsun, Zonguldak and Trabzon," he said.
Some 49 percent of Turkish exports are done through sea transport and 41 percent by land. About 53 percent of Turkish imports are through sea transport and 24 percent inland. The share of the railroads in foreign trade was fairly low and investments must be done to develop this, said the minister.
