Dubai retail market keen on branded goods

Reports from the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) reveal that city's wholesalers and retailers are more interested in selling branded goods rather than non-branded products. Local made products are facing fierce competition from the branded goods.

Statistics were based on the study of 259 companies that are involved in wholesale and retail activities in the emirate.

15 percent of local retailers sell household articles, furniture and 13 percent trade textiles, clothing and footwear of branded companies.

20 percent wholesalers are occupied in the textiles, clothing and footwear businesses, and 16 percent trade in household articles and furniture.

The annual sale of 47 percent wholesalers exceed by Dh5 million against 30 percent for the retail category. 61 percent of this sale comes through exports and re-exporters.

31 percent companies reported to have annual sales between Dh1 million and Dh5 million were in the wholesale business, while 32 percent were in retail.
