Economic activity increases in May

The Activity Index, which measures the activity in the Swedish economy, increased in May 2007. The change in the trend was 0.2 percent in May, which corresponds to an annual rate of 2.2 percent.

The increase of the Activity Index in May can be explained by continued high industrial production and sales in retail trade. The export of goods and the import of goods contributed negatively to the change in the Activity Index.

The number of hours worked for employees in the government sector contributed positively to the change in the Activity Index.

The change in the trend in the Activity Index for the period May 2006 - May 2007 was 2.6 percent. The seasonally-adjusted index did not change in May compared to April.

See below for more information regarding deviations between the Activity Index and GDP. New for this press release is a bar graph showing the contribution of various indicators to the Activity Index.
