British Retail Consortium is organising retail opportunities conference in India on September 27, 2007.
The British Retail Consortium is organising a highly topical and informative half day conference for retailers on the opportunities in the Indian marketplace.
As part of their growth strategies, retailers are looking at international opportunities and India is the current place of choice with major potential.
This is clear with the amount of press coverage retailers are receiving on the subject at the moment. This conference will set out these opportunities as well as identify and discuss some of the challenges.
India has been recognised as the world's leading destination for retail investment by AT Kearney's Global Retail Development Index.
According to latest figures, the economy is growing by 8% a year, its stock market has risen by nearly 40% in 2005 and foreign investors are flooding in. As the economy grows, so does the buying power of India's one billion population and these consumers with disposable incomes are looking for choice.
Added to this, there are also fundamental changes underway in India, with traditional barriers now being removed. In early 2006, the Indian Government announced that it would allow foreign companies to own up to 51% of a single-brand retail company.
However, it is not without its challenges. The infrastructure is still undeveloped and there is also a shortage of retail talent.
These issues need to be addressed by the Indian Government, but conditions can only improve as more retailers enter the marketplace.
This conference will bring all these points to the forefront of the agenda. It will leave delegates with a clear idea of the potential in order to start analysis, planning and development. You do not want to be left behind. Retailers who are ahead of the game will be able to reap the rewards.
Venue: Church House Conference Centre, Dean's Yard, Westminster, London SW1P 3NZ.
