NMCC welcomes CII move to develop Innovation Index

Confederation of Indian Industry yesterday launched the development phase of the Indian Innovation Index in collaboration with INSEAD, France. The move has been lauded by National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) as a good beginning to promoting innovation in Indian manufacturing sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. V. Govindrajan, Member Secretary, NMCC said “The National Manufacturing Strategy of the NMCC is focused on result oriented action on promoting innovation in Indian manufacturing. I believe that the India Innovation Index is a good beginning in creating an environment for innovation action”.
"Mr. Govindrajan, while emphasizing the importance of action orientation, further added that innovation is essential in every aspect at both the central and the state level. The India Innovation Index will help put in place a mindset towards innovation oriented action”.
He further urged CII to come up with an action plan for building an eco system for innovation based on the India Innovation Index.
NMCC in its National Manufacturing Strategy paper has identified innovation as an important factor for growth and therefore such an action plan is essential for India's future growth, he added.
Prof. Soumtira Dutta, the Roland Berger Chair, Instead, who is guiding the development of the India Innovation Index outlined the importance of such an index in its ability to lead to awareness, trigger questioning and action.
