Low turnovers of cotton during works holidays

Most of the spinning mills in this market are still on works holidays. The few ones which have already taken up operation again are revising their needs. Mills´ enquiries reached the trade only sporadically and served in part just for information purposes.

Contracts came into being just in a manageable frame, mainly for nearby deliveries. The Cotlook A Index for 2007/08 quoted 75 points higher in weekly comparison; the cotton quotations in New York ranged 54 points lower for the trading month October 2007, after slight fluctuations over the week.

Turnovers were registered as follows: West African types for prompt and further in the 3rd and 4th quarter 2007; Central Asian sorts for prompt and further in the 3rd quarter 2007; Zimbabwe cotton for dates in the 4th quarter 2007 and in the 1st quarter 2008.
