Spinning mills have partly taken up again their operation after holidays and business starts up slowly. Along with falling quotations in New York and of the Cotlook A Index, an increasing number of enquiries reached the merchants, but indeed served just for price information in most cases.
General tenor was that offers on this level would not harmonize with the achievable yarn prices. Sales which were effected for near dates served as fill-ins. However, contracts were also fixed as far as second quarter 2008.
In the Upland range were traded: Central Asian sorts for prompt and for the 1st and 2nd quarter 2008; Greek descriptions for prompt and for the 4th quarter 2007; Israel Acala and Sudan Acala for prompt; West African types for the 3rd and 4th quarter 2007 and for the 1st and 2nd quarter 2008; Chad cotton from the new crop for the 1st and 2nd quarter 2008, as well as one lot of Mali cotton ex warehouse Bremen.
In the ELS/LS range the following sales were committed: Egyptian GIZA 88 and Israel Pima for prompt, and Sudan Barakat for the 4th quarter 2007.
