Towards the end of the holiday time, demand for cotton for near dates and through until the end of 2007 had slightly gone up. Not all of the spinning mills have already taken up again their production, but orders were made to cover the urgent demand and offering prices for later dates were checked.
The falling market in New York with "limit down" on last Thursday for the December and following trading months had about no influence on the buying interest, but the actually achievable prices for effective cotton. Central Asian cottons were preferred as they were more favourably priced than the West African growths.
In the Upland range turnovers were registered in Central Asian sorts for prompt, further in the 3rd and 4th quarter 2007, as well as in the 1st quarter 2008; West African types for the 3rd and 4th quarter 2007 and Israel Acala for prompt and further in the 3rd and 4th quarter 2007.
In the ELS/LS range were traded: Egyptian GIZA 86 for prompt, GIZA 88 for prompt and further in the 3rd quarter 2007, as well as Sudan Barakat for prompt and further dates in the 3rd and 4th quarter 2007.
