Industrial new orders up by 4.4% in euro area

Annual changes:
In June 2007 compared with June 2006, new orders for transport equipment grew by 38.6% in the euro area and by 45.0% in the EU27. Manufacturing of machinery and equipment gained 14.5% and 14.1% respectively. Basic metals and fabricated metal products increased by 8.3% in the euro area and by 7.7% in the EU27.

Manufacturing of chemicals and chemical products rose by 7.4% and 7.0% respectively. Textiles and textile products grew by 5.4% in the euro area and by 3.7% in the EU27. Electrical and electronic equipment rose by 0.6% in the euro area, but fell by 1.1% in the EU27.

In June 2007, among the Member States for which data are available, total manufacturing working on orders rose in fourteen Member States and fell in five. The highest increases were registered in Poland (+56.4%), Latvia (+29.7%) and Lithuania (+27.6%), and the largest decreases in Greece (-8.2%), Portugal (-3.6%) and the Netherlands (-2.2%).
