Top textile scientists to be honored in Charleston

The world's top textile scientists will be honored during AATCC's 2007 International Conference & Exhibition (IC&E) October 2-4 at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, S.C, U.S.A. The awards will be presented at the Association's conference Awards Luncheon on Thursday, October 2nd.

The program will feature the presentation of the Olney Medal for outstanding achievement in textile chemistry, the Harold C. Chapin Award for service to AATCC, the Henry E. Millson Award for Invention, and the J. William Weaver Paper of the Year Award.

THE J. WILLIAM WEAVER PAPER OF THE YEAR AWARD will be awarded to Gang Sun, Jeffrey Williams, Lei Qian, and Joseph Chen, authors of "Durable and Regenerable Antimicrobial Textiles: Thermal Stability Of Halamine Structures," selected as the best peer-reviewed paper published in AATCC Review in 2006.

Gang Sun holds bachelor's and master's degrees from China Textile University, and a PhD from Auburn University. He is currently a professor at the Division of Textiles and Clothing of the University of California–Davis.

Sun joined AATCC in 1995. He is also a member of the American Chemical Society and the Fiber Society. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles, and has won a National Textile Center Director's Award and a National Science Foundation Career Award.

Jeffrey F. Williams holds a BV Sc from the University of Bristol, U.K. and was a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in London. He holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.
