Shipments of manufactured durable goods up in July

Inventories:
Inventories of manufactured durable goods in July, up sixteen of the last seventeen months, increased $0.4 billion or 0.1 percent to $313.0 billion. This was also at the highest level since the series was first stated on a NAICS basis in 1992 and followed a slight June decrease.

Transportation equipment, up six of the last seven months, had the largest increase, $0.5 billion or 0.7 percent to $77.8 billion.

Capital Goods:
Nondefense new orders for capital goods in July increased $4.5 billion or 5.8 percent to $81.9 billion. Shipments increased $0.9 billion or 1.4 percent to $66.7 billion. Unfilled orders increased $15.2 billion or 3.7 percent to $424.2 billion. Inventories increased $0.5 billion or 0.4 percent to $122.0 billion.

Defense new orders for capital goods in July increased $2.6 billion or 35.7 percent to $9.7 billion. Shipments increased $0.7 billion or 9.1 percent to $8.7 billion. Unfilled orders increased $1.0 billion or 0.7 percent to $143.6 billion. Inventories increased $0.1 billion or 0.6 percent to $17.0 billion.

Revised June Data:
Revised seasonally adjusted June figures for all manufacturing industries were: new orders, $420.8 billion (revised from $419.5 billion); shipments, $414.7 billion (revised from $414.3 billion); unfilled orders, $737.2 billion (revised from $736.1 billion); and total inventories, $516.5 billion (revised from $516.9 billion).
